With the help of more than $11,000 in training grants received through RochesterWorks!, Special Care Systems LLC was able to train six staff members to become more efficient on the latest equipment.
“Employees are better at what they do now,” says Ann Kowal, President of the Webster-based health care communications company.
Special Care Systems installs, integrates and services nurse call systems and personal emergency systems to senior living communities, nursing homes, residential homes and hospitals.
“Grants have enabled them to send people to training that would not have been able to attend, increased competitive edge and increased knowledge of technicians in the field,” says Rosa Smith-Montanaro, Business Services Representative with RochesterWorks!
“We’re more efficient so less time is spent on projects and jobs ultimately increasing the profit margin,” Kowal says.
The training has also helped several employees gain certification and overall helps the staff to be more confident about their work and need less management, she adds.
“We are integrators. Our ability to understand technology and integrate is a key component to our business,” Kowal says.
Over the past two years, Special Care Systems has used several RochesterWorks! training grants and its on-the-job training program.
The on-the-job training program helped to offset some of the costs associated with training a new hire who was lacking some of the skills required for the job. The company was awarded other training assistance grants, enabling them to increase the skills of their Field Technicians, Smith-Montanaro says.
Special Care Systems has also taken advantage of other RochesterWorks! services including assistance with writing job descriptions, posting job opportunities and the company has hired individuals through RochesterWorks!’s career center.
