Disability Identity Development

November 29, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Overview of Topics: The Cass Identity Model was developed in 1979 by Vivienne Cass to describe six stages of gay and lesbian identity development. By looking at this model as an example we can identify stages that may be found in disability identity development. For those who were born with a disability or those that acquire a disability at some point in life, many of the experiences laid out by Cass can be paralleled within the disability experience. This academic model can give us a new perspective on the lives of people we serve and the ways to best support our consumers at any stage. Download flyer
