The opioid addiction and overdose crisis continues to impact our community as well as the workplace. Join us as we offer guidance from local experts to help employers prepare, both from the medical side as well as the compliance side. Michael D. Mendoza, MD, MPH, MS, Commissioner of Public Health for Monroe County, will discuss how opioid misuse is negatively impacting the community and what employers need to know to prepare themselves and their organizations to respond. Attendees will receive training from Dr. Mendoza in the administration of Narcan (nasal spray treatment for opioid overdose) and each will receive a free Narcan kit (a $140 value).
Also, Kimberly Harding, employment attorney at Nixon Peabody LLP, will discuss legal consideration for employers who are suffering the effects of the opioid crisis, including best practices for updating drug testing policies, accommodating requests for leave to get treatment, addressing performance deficiencies, handling employee or visitor overdoses at work, and how Good Samaritan laws may come into play.
