Training Helps Pam Find Success in New Career

“I looked into the medical field. I thought it was best for a job in the future.” -- Pamela

A local Rochester woman found financial help through RochesterWorks! for job training to become a phlebotomist.

Pamela was working as a server in a restaurant for three years before people started dining out less with the economic slow down. It became clear to her that she needed to look for a new career field.

Before working in a restaurant she was a receptionist and secretary in the school district for six years. Prior to that a stay-at-home mom.

Pamela needed more permanent, steady employment.

“I looked into the medical field. I thought it was best for a job in the future,” Pamela said.

But she needed more direction and hoped to get financial backing. She found help at RochesterWorks! which approved and paid for Pamela to train as a phlebotomist at Monroe #1 BOCES in Fairport.

“I received 100 percent financial support. It was a blessing,” Pamela said.

She did so well in the training program that she was awarded the Genesee Region Association for Continuing and Community Education award by the Genesee Region Association for “people we are proud of.”

Pamela became a certified phlebotomist and obtained full time employment at Unity Hospital with benefits after training. She now works for a local laboratory services company.

She is extremely satisfied with the training and services obtained through RochesterWorks!

“I love working with people and helping people. It’s rewarding,” Pamela said. “I’m thankful for what RochesterWorks! offered.”
