Computer Boot Camp Offers Job Seekers a Consistent and Structured Learning Environment

Technology is so powerful and ever-changing. It drives everything and everybody, including employment - from applying for a job online to using various software programs on-the-job.

For some people, using a computer is a new concept. They have never had an opportunity or reason, or as I continue to hear: “I’m afraid I might break something, or I’m embarrassed, my kids know more than I do.”

For some people, using a computer is a new concept. They have never had an opportunity or reason, or as I continue to hear: “I’m afraid I might break something, or I’m embarrassed, my kids know more than I do.”

RochesterWorks now offers a week-long course: Basic Skills Computer Boot Camp. This five-day course gives job seekers consistency and structure in a comfortable hands-on environment, where they learn how to:

  • use the mouse effectively
  • navigate the Windows environment
  • manage files
  • create and save a documents in Microsoft Word
  • complete an online application
  • and create and use an e-mail account.

In order to ensure that job seekers have an understanding of the material, an online skills assessment is administered at the end of the course; with the goal of increasing their comfort level, knowledge, and skills, so they can use computers successfully in their job search.
