Designed for people who work with or care about youth, this Conference brings together people of different backgrounds, nationally and internationally, who share a common goal: to work together to create healthy communities for children and youth through asset building.
This one-of-a-kind intergenerational event attracts approximately 1,500 youth and adults who want to learn, connect, renew, and be equipped to become asset champions and community change leaders. During the Conference, as a participant, you will learn with and from other asset builders, make connections that will prove beneficial in your work and personal life, and renew your commitment to asset building through hard work and fun!
Based on experience from seven previous Conferences, you will return to your local organizations and communities with the motivation, knowledge, and tools to make a difference in the lives of your peers, colleagues, neighbors, and community youth. Based on the 40 Developmental Assets, the underpinning of positive youth development, the Conference provides opportunities for youth and adults to play leadership roles as planners, facilitators, speakers, hosts, and monitors to other Conference participants.
Asset builders from across the country and the world will gather in Rochester , New York , for this 11th annual Healthy Communities • Healthy Youth Conference. Monroe County was chosen because this initiative of 18 towns, the City of Rochester , school districts and the county has been active in the assets movement for more than a decade. Their schools, neighborhoods, places of worship, human services and juvenile justice system have all been touched or transformed by the assets framework. Like many other communities, Monroe County and the City of Rochester face challenges. In building a vigorous Asset Partner Network, the community benefits due to the hard work and dedication of so many people who have a common vision and share the work. We know their stories, strategies, and youth and adult relationships will energize the conference in new and wonderful ways.
The theme, TRANSFORMING Relationships: For the Common Good will guide us in focusing on the importance of intentional relationship building and why it is so critical to a better world where all children and youth thrive. The conference will address such questions as: What happens as a result of relationships transformed because of building assets? Do they really change our society and the world? How? If transformed relationships bring us closer to a vision and reality of "the common good," what does that look like in our communities?
