Abraham shares his journey from struggling in dead-end jobs to finding a fulfilling career as a commercial driver. With the help of RochesterWorks, he gained the confidence and training needed to pursue a new career path, overcoming challenges and achieving his professional goals. Abraham’s story highlights the power of personalized guidance and support in navigating the job market and achieving success.
Prior to finding out about RochesterWorks, I was working what felt like dead end jobs in factory and janitorial work rather than careers. Once I learned about RochesterWorks, I met with a career advisor and took a grant workshop where I learned more about my career choices as far as entry level positions and salaries. Then I figured out what I wanted for a career and RochesterWorks worked with me to get a grant that helped out with the cost of the training I needed to succeed. Coaching by career advisors, as well as workshops like the one for training grants were all very valuable.
RochesterWorks career advising just solidified why I wanted to do what I wanted to do, and the consistent communication has even helped me after the grant and schooling process. While working with RochesterWorks I was able to go to driving school and graduate with a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A).
