Joshua joined the RochesterWorks Navigator Program to pursue his GED and find a stable career. With support through job placements and training, he moved from retail to healthcare internships, earned his GED diploma, and is now a trainer at a pharmaceutical company, all while raising a daughter and building a successful future.
Joshua was unemployed and not attending school when he signed on to the RochesterWorks Navigator Program to help him reach his educational and career goals. He was ambitious and wanted to earn his diploma and be independent.
For starters, his Navigator helped him learn interviewing skills and he immediately landed a job in retail services. He then expressed a desire to get into the healthcare field. His Navigator was then able to set him up with a paid internship in environmental services at a local hospital. While Joshua was successful in his hospital job, he wanted to accomplish more. His Navigator then helped him get connected to several different GED preparation opportunities. Getting his GED would open more doors for Joshua, he just had to get there.
Today, Joshua still remembers the struggle of working and attending classes and appreciates all the encouragement and connections provided to him through the RochesterWorks Navigator Program—especially when he wanted to give it up. He stayed the course though, and he graduated with his GED!
Joshua’s first post-GED employment was at a prestigious Rochester manufacturing company. Today, Joshua works at a pharmaceutical company in Grand Island, NY, where he has accepted a promotion as a trainer. Joshua is also the proud father of a beautiful daughter.
